Presentation of the Edusost Network

The Network suggested here wants to bring together the long tradition of the past and the present in Catalonia on environmental education and education for sustainability. This tradition has adopted different forms, with schools, research groups, networks and actions within civil society and national companies. This Network wants to help maintain continuity and project to the future these initiatives, enhancing network research as an added value. It wants to maintain continuity also by generating synergies between the different groups that construct the Network nowadays, as well as those that could enter the Network in the future. This would give a guarantee of its durability, optimizing resources and efforts to move forward to a sustainable development.

The proposed Network is based on the concept of sustainability as a new positive social value, mostly as an answer to the awareness of the actual economic growth model limitations. The starting point is the idea that a sustainable development is holistic and complex, and that, as such, it needs the cooperation of several points of view and different knowledge fields, which could help the network we propose as an added value.

That is why the main mission of the Network is to promote and optimize the education for sustainability, creating knowledge from the experiences developed up to the current day, especially by the participating groups and from the exchange and collaboration in research, improvement and innovation projects. The Networks aims to achieve its mission by opting for a strategy that enables creating of conditions to facilitate the exchange between the involved groups and between those that share a concern, interest and/or knowledge of the subject.

In short, the Research Network in Education for Sustainability aims to: (i) evolve in culture and knowledge for sustainability, in the setting of university teaching and ongoing training, based on environmental values and criteria, democratic and sustainable; (ii) work for the research of new interpretative models of analysis of reality and environmental questions, and direct them to the paradigm of sustainable progress; (iii) move forward and contribute to the harmonisation and future of the university system in the European setting of higher education.
